Tips for Photographing at the Salt Flats, Utah

Brea + Cameron- Brea worked with Cameron’s sister and she set them up! They have been dating for about a year and are eloping to Hawaii in July! We can’t wait!

  1. Help your clients feel prepared in their clothing choice. Opt for darker tones, blacks, grey, navy, things that will pop against the never ending salt.

  2. Check the weather, if it is windy it is miserable out there. Salt blows in eyes, and there is no coverage. Other than wind, you are golden.

  3. Bring a rug and a little picnic to give your photos some variety.

  4. Wear shoes you aren’t super attached to, they will be coated in salt. (It usually washes out in cold water.)

  5. Feel free to drive right out onto the salt, but just be cautious some seasons are more prone to you getting stuck.

  6. I recommend getting there an hour and a half before the sunsets, just to give yourself plenty of time to explore.

  7. There are no permits needed to shoot here.

  8. Get creative, have a fire, bring smoke bombs, stay after dark, really make it your own.
